The Magnificent Seven? Hardly!
On the off chance you haven't had enough of me, May has tagged me to provide seven habits/quirks/facts about myself. Without further ado, and in no particular order:
1) I am solar powered and have to live in a sunny climate in order to thrive. After living 32 years living in one of the cloudiest, overcast parts of the U.S. (the Detroit area) I now relish the abundant sunshine available in the south Bay area of California. I swear I’m more productive, energetic and generally happier when the sun is shining.
2) On my bed stand you’ll find I enjoy reading intense nonfiction books on disease, historical figures and events, and I secretly (well, not anymore) devour with the same energy gossipy offerings like People and Us Weekly.
3) I was 35 or 36 before I first tasted asparagus. Yeah, I grew up in a household that was firmly in the canned vegetable camp and didn’t fully appreciate fresh vegetables until I stepped foot in a Whole Foods. Now I’m a fresh vegetable zealot. And on a related item, I’ve never tried guacamole and, in spite of living in California, I have no plans to do so.
4) I’m the Forest Gump of my family. Through work and other random encounters, I’ve personally met among others: Prince Philip (yes, the Queen’s husband); Lee Iacocca; Peter Graves (of the original TV series Mission Impossible fame); President Bill Clinton; Senator John McCain; Super Bowl winning Hall of Fame Football player Ronnie Lott; singers Michael McDonald (of Doobie Brothers fame) and Kenny Loggins.
5) I’ve had to wear braces: twice. Just got the damn things off for the second time 18 months ago. You want to talk embarassing try sitting in an orthodontist office with prepubscents when you're far from it. And I was also born cross-eyed and pigeon toed, but I wasn't by the time I was two. Here's Mel's cartoon version of me — there's a striking resemblance ... beginning with the glass of wine!
6) I was married on an island in the Pacific by a pastor who delivered half the service in a language I don’t understand, but it was legal.
7) My name is on a plaque in the Smithsonian Museum along with few others for a project that marked a technological breakthrough in history. Wow. Even I can hardly believe that!
Now I'd like to hear seven unusual things about: Chicklet at Blurb This; McHope at Infertility Monster; Geohde at Mission Impossible; Heather at Big P and Me; and Vee at The Sweet Life.

I'm with you on being solar powered. When I lived in CO I actually felt better, got sick less often, and was surely happier on a surface level. How could I be unhappy in such a beautiful sunshiney setting?!? (dang i miss the west)

When I visit the in-laws in California, I am always amazed that they have avocados growing right in their backyard and can whip up a batch of fresh guacamole just on whim. You're like a New Orleanian who has never had red beans and rice (oh wait, that was me until my senior year of high school).

I had braces twice too! The second time was in college. Talk about being a big dork! Not the best way to get a date.

I've had to wear braces twice as well. Once as a teenager and once in my mid twenties. I was wearing them when I first met DH..

I'm not a technologist myself but I was on the team that brought the technology to life. And I can't tell you what it was because that would divulge my true identity (the team got loads of recognition). I'm waiting until my book is published to reveal my true identity. I prefer a thin veil of mystery for now...hey a girl's gotta have it, right?
